New! Core A11Y Accessibility Plugin Developed by BNP Engage for Elementor

If you’ve worked with BNP Engage on a new website project, you probably know how much our production team loves Elementor. Elementor is a page builder plug-in that we use to build WordPress websites. While there are several page builder plug-ins available on WordPress, we choose to work with Elementor because it’s:

  • Easy it is to use for our team and our clients
  • Frequently updated and maintained
  • Compatible with a wide variety of add-ons and integrations that make customizations a breeze

However, one industry standard that Elementor struggles to keep up with is accessibility. Accessibility on the web is an incredibly important aspect of the build process. Making sure your website is accessible not only protects against potential lawsuits, but it ensures that your content reaches all audiences. Accessibility is for everybody!

Due to this, our development and design teams have worked closely to correct and amend accessibility issues as we discover them. Over the years, this has led to us having a large repository of settings, controls, and functions to enhance accessibility on Elementor.

As we have enjoyed these additional features, we saw an opportunity to stand by our belief that ‘accessibility is for everybody’. So, we’ve compiled our accessibility enhancements for Elementor as its own FREE WordPress plug-in: CoreA11Y!

What is CoreA11Y?

CoreA11Y is a free WordPress plug-in that offers additional accessibility features to the Elementor page builder. These features include:

  • Custom focus state controls for buttons, form fields, and other standard Elementor widgets
  • A full-height image option to avoid using background images without an alt attribute

And we’re just getting started! Like Elementor, we’ll be regularly updating this plug-in with other add-ons and patches as we find them. We can’t wait to keep developing this plug-in so that these essential accessibility features are prominent and easy to implement for all designers. Future additions include:

  • Controls to easily add aria-labels to nav items
  • Resolve a conflict regarding duplicate IDs when sticky elements are used

Where Can I Download CoreA11Y?

CoreA11Y can be downloaded for free from WordPress.org. If you download it and love it, we’d love for you to leave an honest review. Have you ever used Elementor and noticed an accessible feature not present or not working properly? We’d love to hear from you!

At BNP Engage, we’re dedicated to building websites that are user-friendly, engaging, and compliant with ADA guidelines. Have any questions about how to boost your website’s accessibility? Contact us today to start a conversation and create a website that’s accessible to all users.
